Coastal Exploration in Andaman: Rock Pools & Hidden Shores

Coastal exploration in Andaman: guided low-tide walks to rock pools, coral flats and quiet shores, timed with the tide and led by a naturalist.

Overview

Coastal exploration in Andaman means reading the shoreline the way islanders do. At low tide, rocky shores near Chidiyatapu, Wandoor and the quieter beaches of Swaraj Dweep reveal pools full of small corals, sea cucumbers, crabs and darting fish. Our coastal experience, The Shoreline Explorer, is a gentle, guided walk timed to the tide, where you learn to look closely, step carefully and leave everything exactly as you found it.

When the tide draws back along certain Andaman shores, it reveals a hidden landscape. Flat rock platforms appear, studded with clear pools where small corals, sea anemones, hermit crabs, sea cucumbers and darting fish live in miniature worlds. The Shoreline Explorer is a guided walk through this intertidal zone, timed precisely with the tide so you can see it at its best.

Your guide explains how creatures survive between the tides, how coral, sand and rock shape the coast, and why some of these habitats are among the most fragile in the islands. You learn to look closely without touching, to step only on bare rock and sand, and to observe without lifting, collecting or disturbing anything. Collecting shells, coral or live animals is illegal and never part of the experience.

It is a gentle, absorbing experience that changes your sense of the coastline. Children love it, photographers find endless detail, and everyone leaves with a new respect for the shoreline.
