Overview
Mangrove exploration is one of the most rewarding nature experiences in the Andaman Islands. Dense mangrove forests line sheltered creeks across South and Middle Andaman and Swaraj Dweep, protecting the coast and sheltering young fish, crabs and birds. Our naturalist-led journey, Into the Mangrove Maze, follows permitted waterways by boat or, where suitable, by kayak, so you can see this hidden world up close.
The Andaman Islands are fringed by some of India's richest mangrove forests, and yet most visitors pass them by on the way to the beach. Into the Mangrove Maze slows you down and takes you inside. Gliding along permitted waterways, you enter a quiet, shaded world of arching prop roots, tidal channels and dappled green light, where the water is calm and the only sounds are birds, the drip of the tide and the creak of the boat.
What makes this more than a boat ride is interpretation. A naturalist guide explains how mangroves breathe through their roots, why they matter as nurseries for young fish and crabs, how they protect island coastlines from storms, and how the forest changes as you move from salt to brackish water. You learn to notice mudskippers, fiddler crabs, kingfishers and herons, and to read the clues the tide leaves behind.
Routes are chosen with the tide and with local rules in mind, in waterways where tourist boats are permitted. Many of these creeks are home to wildlife, including saltwater crocodiles in parts of the archipelago, so we only use established, approved routes and experienced boatmen. Wildlife is part of the story, but sightings are never promised.

Best For
Nature lovers, photographers and curious families.
Perfect for anyone who enjoys quiet observation. It is gentle and suitable for most ages, and a rewarding choice on days when the open sea is too rough for longer boat trips.
Best Time
October to May, ideally in the early morning when birds are active and light is soft. Timing follows the tide, so we confirm the slot a day or two ahead.
Permissions & Availability
Mangrove Exploration is subject to permissions, sea conditions and host availability. Boats may only enter waterways where tourist access is permitted, and some routes need forest or local permissions. Access can change with season and regulation.
We confirm every element a day or two before you travel and keep you informed if plans need to change. Safety, local rules and our hosts' wishes always come first.
Responsible Travel
Mangrove Exploration follows our responsible travel promise. We keep groups small, use established routes and permitted locations, pay hosts fairly and leave every place as we found it. We never promise wildlife sightings, and we never market, visit or photograph the islands' indigenous communities, whose privacy and protected status we fully respect.
Please carry a refillable bottle, use reef-safe sunscreen, avoid touching coral or wildlife and ask before photographing people.
