Local-Hosted Activities in Andaman: Gardens, Kitchens & Hosts

Local-hosted activities in Andaman with willing island hosts: home-garden visits, cooking together and conversations about everyday island life.

Overview

Local-hosted activities are about time spent with island families who choose to share their homes, gardens and skills. The most loved is From Garden to Table, where you walk through a home garden of coconut palms, curry leaves and tropical fruit near Sri Vijaya Puram, then cook and eat together. Every host is willing, paid fairly and free to say no, which is why these afternoons feel warm and genuine.

Many Andaman homes are surrounded by small, productive gardens: papaya and banana plants, coconut palms, curry leaf, chillies, betel, jackfruit and whatever the season brings. From Garden to Table spends time in one of these gardens with a local host, learning how island families grow, pick and use their own ingredients.

You walk through the garden, taste tropical fruits straight from the tree when they are in season, and learn how each plant finds its way into everyday cooking. Then, where suitable hosts are available, you move into the kitchen for hands-on meal preparation, grinding coconut and spices, preparing vegetables and cooking a simple island meal that you share together.

It is unhurried, warm and personal, and offers a glimpse of island life that few visitors see. Hosts are paid fairly, and the menu adapts to your dietary needs and the season.
