The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a group of  572 islands,slands located in South-East of the Bay of Bengal, between 6˚ and 14˚ North latitudes and 92˚ & 94˚ East longitudes. Of the total, only 36 are permanently inhabitated and these are separated from each other by vast sea. They form an archipelago  of which only a few are inhabited. The islands are divided into two groups: the Andaman Islands and the Nicobar Islands. 1. Flights (Recommended for a Short Journey Time of 2-3 Hours)

The most convenient and time-efficient way to reach the Andaman Islands is by air. The Veer Savarkar International Airport, located in Port Blair, serves as the gateway to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Port Blair is well-connected to major Indian cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam.

Several airlines operate regular flights to Port Blair, including:

Booking Tips: It is highly recommended to book your flights well in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, to secure your preferred travel dates and the best fares.

Direct Flights: While most flights to Port Blair are from Chennai and Kolkata, there are also direct flights available from other major cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi.

Connecting Flights: If direct flights are not available or do not align with your schedule, you may need to consider connecting flights with layovers in Chennai or Kolkata. Keep in mind that connecting flights may add extra travel time and could require separate ticket bookings.

Time Zone: There is no time difference between mainland India and the Andaman Islands, so there’s no need to adjust your watch upon arrival.

2. Ships (Takes 3 or More Days)

Ship Routes: These sea routes offer a unique travel experience, allowing you to enjoy the expansive views of the ocean as you make your way to the islands.

Ticket Booking: To book ship tickets, you can visit the official website of the Directorate of Shipping Services here or contact their offices in Chennai, Kolkata, or Visakhapatnam. It’s advisable to book tickets in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, as availability may be limited.

Foreign Chartered Flights:

Foreign chartered flights are also permitted to land at Port Blair, subject to the fulfillment of guidelines set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
